Review Highlights
(12 of the most relevant and recent reviews from real guests)"During my vacation in Mexico on the stunning Mayan Riviera, I had the pleasure of staying at the unique and enchanting La Valise hotel. The property is beautifully divided into two areas: one right on the beach with breathtaking ocean views, and the other nestled deep in the lush jungle, offering a serene and immersive nature experience. I chose the Rattan Suite (nr 10), and it couldn't have been a better decision. The design was both elegant and authentic, with natural textures, artisanal touches, and a seamless connection to the surrounding environment. Waking up to the sounds of the jungle and falling asleep to the distant rhythm of the waves was simply magical. Every detail of the stay felt thoughtfully curated, and the atmosphere was peaceful, luxurious, and inspiring. La Valise is truly a hidden gem - the perfect blend of comfort, nature, and style. Dear La Valise Team, Thank you for the lovely and relaxing time at La Valise - even if it was unfortunately short. Everything was perfect. I hope to return one day for a longer stay! Gracias! ."
"La Valise Tulum is an absolute gem, offering a perfect blend of luxury and authenticity. From the moment you arrive, you're welcomed with warm hospitality and a level of personalized service that makes you feel truly special. The hotel's design is stunning-elegant yet deeply connected to nature. The rooms are beautifully decorated with handcrafted details, natural materials, and an effortless bohemian-chic aesthetic. Some suites even offer beds that can be rolled out onto a private terrace, allowing you to sleep under the stars while listening to the soothing sound of the waves. It's a magical experience you won't find anywhere else. The location is unbeatable, right on a pristine stretch of Tulum's famous beach. The atmosphere is peaceful and intimate, making it the perfect escape for those looking to unwind in a luxurious yet authentic setting. Every detail, from the carefully curated decor to the organic toiletries, is thoughtfully designed to enhance your stay. Service is impeccable-attentive yet discreet. The staff goes above and beyond to ensure your experience is unforgettable. Whether it's arranging a private dinner on the beach or offering tailored recommendations, they make you feel like a VIP. If you're looking for a chic, exclusive retreat that captures the true essence of Tulum, La Valise is the place to be."
"La Valise was the final stop on our Tulum getaway, and it couldn’t have been a more perfect way to end the trip. We were warmly welcomed by the friendly front-of-house team, and as we sipped our welcome cocktails, we were given a short tour of the property. The location is truly breathtaking—from the moment you walk through the lush gardens and into the heart of the main beachside area of the hotel, the first glimpse of the sea is absolutely staggering. Dining with that view, whether for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, is a memory we’ll cherish for a long time. Our room was on the beach side, tucked within the gardens. We loved it—especially the private plunge pool and the super comfortable bed. The ceiling fans were also a big plus for us; we’ve always preferred them to air conditioning (though the room had both). One evening, we were even treated to a surprise visit from the three raccoons we’d enjoyed watching during our stay at Radhoo! They popped by, peeped through the sliding doors window, and then scurried off into the night. Food and drinks were excellent—high-quality and beautifully presented throughout. La Valise delivers exceptional service across the board. The staff were warm, attentive, and genuinely lovely, always going the extra mile. The waiters worked incredibly hard, especially in the heat, but always seemed happy to be there and took fantastic care of us. The management and front-of-house team couldn’t do enough to help. As we were celebrating our anniversary during our stay, we received a beautiful card and gift with such kind words—it was a thoughtful gesture that really made us feel special. We shared some fun conversations with the team, and by the time we left, it felt like we were saying goodbye to new friends. It wouldn’t be fair to single any one of the waiting staff out, as the whole team was so friendly. However we would make special mention of the concierge team - Angela, Elias, Alan, Jorge, Manuel and Selzin. One of the standout features of La Valise is its split between the beachfront and jungle sides. The jungle pool area is absolutely gorgeous, with a laid-back bar and a tranquil atmosphere that makes it feel like a hidden oasis. It’s the perfect balance of beach and nature. La Valise is what we’d describe as ‘luxury boho’—thoughtful design, a serene atmosphere, and faultless service, all with its own unique magic. We couldn’t recommend it more highly."
Weiter Infos mittels Textanhang."
"La Valise Tulum is truly a one-of-a-kind experience, and we’re so glad we chose it for our getaway. From the moment we arrived, the peaceful vibe of the hotel made us feel like we’d stepped into a little jungle sanctuary. 🌿✨ We stayed in the Roll Out to the Stars suite, and it was absolutely unforgettable. The bed rolls out onto the terrace, so we got to fall asleep under the stars, surrounded by the sounds of the jungle. It was such a unique experience and something we’ll be talking about for years to come. 🌌 The room’s design was simple yet beautiful, with natural finishes and thoughtful details that made it feel warm and welcoming. The staff was friendly and helpful throughout our stay, and we loved the balance of privacy and connection to nature. That said, the jungle does come with its quirks—on our last day, I got a tiny sting from a little scorpion. It wasn’t serious, but it’s a good reminder that nature is all around you here! If you’re looking for a place that combines relaxation, adventure, and something completely different, La Valise Tulum is a perfect choice. It’s not your typical hotel experience, and that’s exactly what makes it so special!"
"I would by far recommend anyone considering this hotel to stay here! Immediately, I was blown away by the beauty of the property and the kindness of the staff. Every day, there was a new place of the property we could relax and reset, from the pool to the beach (that they keep immaculate) to the spa to the restaurant. The food is INCREDIBLE (the pork tacos and the sun-dried tomato toast were my personal favorites). Definitely get a reservation to Nu while you're there. It is also so walkable to many things! The staff makes sure you are always taken care of and enjoying your stay. Plus, Frida the hotel cat was the cutest way to be greeted at the front desk!"
"The hotel exceeded our expectations, the rooms was spacious and had small details that made our stay even more comfortable. The level of service and kindness from the stuff was outstanding, we experienced a 5 star service level from a 4 star hotel. The location is perfect, just in the middle of the beach strip, surrounded by restaurants, bars, pharmacy and mini markets. Food at the restaurant could have been better seasoned, more authentic, sometimes it felt like it was catered to American palate instead of with Mexican flair."
"Wonderful stay! The beachfront location is beautiful, the breakfast and food were very good, and the service was outstanding. Every staff member, from reception to customer service, was friendly, attentive, and professional. A special thank you to Miguel, who went above and beyond with his kindness and willingness to help. It was also a pleasure meeting the owner and his wife—they are a wonderful couple doing an excellent job. The only downside was the sargassum, but that's a natural seasonal issue and completely beyond the hotel's control. Overall, I had a great experience and would gladly stay here again."
"Booked the suite with rolling bed. Issues: stained robes, slow replacement, A/C not working initially, communication issues with staff, and missing welcome wine promised via Expedia booking. Loved the ambiance, left disappointed due to missed expectations given reputation and rate. We were very much looking forward to our stay at your beautiful property, and while we truly appreciated the unique design and overall atmosphere, I wanted to share a few disappointments that impacted our experience. We had booked the suite with the rolling bed, and checked in around 4:00-4:30 PM, hoping to unwind and take a few photos before our 7:30 PM dinner reservation. Unfortunately, several issues took up most of that limited window: When I reached for the robes, both had noticeable yellow stains. I texted the staff for replacements, and also reported that the A/C remote wasn't working-important since the doors cannot be opened with the A/C on. It took nearly an hour to receive the new robes and for someone to look into the A/C issue. While I understand things can take time, the service felt very slow, especially during a time-sensitive part of our stay. ... our booking on Expedia mentioned a complimentary bottle of wine in the suite, which we never received-something I had been looking forward to after the delays ... I left feeling disappointed that we weren't able to take the photos I envisioned, especially given the reputation and rate of the property. Additionally, while I was getting ready, the staff troubleshooting the A/C appeared to be having a serious conversation about The A/C, which made the situation feel uncomfortable. Lastly, our booking on Expedia mentioned a complimentary bottle of wine in the suite, which we never received-something I had been looking forward to after the delays. While we truly loved the ambiance and would have enjoyed staying longer, I left feeling disappointed that we weren't able to take the photos I envisioned, especially given the reputation and rate of the property. "Rooms (jungle!) were very nice and well appointed. Staff very friendly and efficient. Dining area exposed to wind and rain and needs some form of curtain or sliding doors to make the area comfortable and liveable. Found to our dismay that NU restaurant across the road closed on Tuesdays - disappointing in the pouring rain!"
"We spent 5 nights at La Valise Tulum and loved every minute. The yoga classes were fantastic, food was delicious (loved the fresh ceviche!), and the beach was pristine. It's a bit pricey but totally worth it for the experience. Only downside was spotty WiFi, but that forced us to disconnect which was nice."
"Overall, a huge disappointment!! Especially when I consider that I, as a solo traveler, paid USD 900 for one night. In addition, there were the expenses and the transfer from Cancun Airport to Tulum. The following notes: The price paid is absolutely not in proportion to what I experienced and received. Hotel: very beautiful architecture, nice style Staff: Basically, everyone was very friendly and accommodating. In particular, I would like to mention Carlos on the beach, Natyeri at the reception, and the older masseuse who gave a powerful, sensational massage. Room: My reserved room was very large for me alone and beautiful. The only thing was that everyday items, such as hygiene products like cotton pads, ear cleaners, bath slippers, etc., had to be specifically requested in order for them to be brought to the room. Also, my sun loungers on the balcony were not always covered by the cleaning service, and I had to request those as well. My travel adapter for electronic devices did not work in the room. Natyeri at the reception kindly got me one. After the third night. I had to change rooms after the second night. I always felt like someone was in the room starting from the second night. On the third night, I discovered a large badger in my room that had crawled through the straw roof. I could not spend another night there and wanted to switch. Even though it was mentioned at check-in that the concierge is available 24/7, that was not the case. On the first morning, the reception was still not staffed at 7:30 AM. After the roof discovery in my room at night, I only received a response in the morning... Breakfast: That was the first major disappointment for me. On the first day, when I went for breakfast, there was nothing at all. I asked if I was too late. They denied that and told me that breakfast was à la carte. The staff explained the menu to me as follows. 'From the first category, you can choose anything, from the second, one item, and if you want more, you have to pay for it. That is unacceptable!' I pay so much for the room/breakfast and then there are even restrictions! No way. There was only American coffee, which is undrinkable. If I wanted to order an espresso, I had to pay extra for it. The menu said 'Homemade bread.' I asked what types of bread were available. The response was croissants and banana bread! I do not eat croissants, and banana bread is not real bread to me. An absolute no-go for a luxury boutique hotel in this price range. Once, I ordered overnight oatmeal, which is oatmeal soaked overnight. I was simply served raw oats in milk. That went straight back! In the last few days, I was told that I needed to pre-order breakfast. I do not know in advance what I will feel like the next day. On the last day, I had breakfast in my room and ordered banana bread. In the banana bread, I found two small, black, hard, stone-like things and almost broke a tooth! :-(( Because of these experiences, I never made a reservation at their so-called acclaimed star restaurant. If such simple things do not work, then dinner will not work either! Beach: The beach was actually very nice, if it weren't for all the seaweed. At some point, I complained because I smelled the slowly decaying seaweed with every breeze, and the beach was full of it. On the third day, finally a few workers came with wheelbarrows and pitchforks and removed part of it. Of course, it was never enough, because such a hotel should clean it mechanically every morning. So I had to walk over a pile of algae that had washed up on the shore in order to get into the sea. Bar: At the bar, there was a young, small, rather chubby employee with glasses who had absolutely no idea about drinks. I ordered a gin and tonic at the bar. She wanted to serve it in a small white wine glass and top it off with mineral water. So she had no idea at all. I had to explain to her how to properly prepare a simple gin and tonic and which glasses to use for it. It would definitely be beneficial for her to take a bartending course. One morning at breakfast, I observed her a bit. She was just cutting the fruits for the drinks. No gloves on, still wearing all her jewelry on her fingers, and in between, she kept enjoying and then continued working. I almost lost my breakfast!!! When I ordered drinks at the beach, I couldn't order any nuts or chips to go with them; they simply didn't have any. One day, I ordered guacamole with the drinks. Actually a typical Mexican specialty. What a misstep. The guacamole was simply a mashed avocado with a lot of lemon juice. No spices at all; the tortilla chips were completely unseasoned. Italian restaurant in the partner hotel next door. I ordered spaghetti with clams. The shells were almost all empty, and there was so much flat-leaf parsley in it that it overshadowed the entire natural flavor. With the bread, finally some normal bread, there was olive oil, but it was accompanied by vinegar. No Italian would do such a thing. I summoned the restaurant manager and explained to him how simple it is to cook Italian food. I also explained to him how to properly prepare spaghetti with mussels. Unfortunately, they have no idea about Italian cuisine. A customer who runs a travel agency thought she was not hearing correctly when I told her all of this! For me, as a frequent traveler, it was a huge disappointment, and I will not return to either Mexico or this hotel."
