"La Valise is a beautiful boutique hotel with a really unique, private feel and a great overall experience. I stayed in February and loved it—breakfast every morning with a beach view was such a highlight. The location is perfect, making it easy to walk or bike to everything nearby. The room was very clean, and having our own little villa made it feel extra special, especially with the outdoor shower which really added to the experience. I also had a massage at the spa, which was a great experience and made the stay even more relaxing. Overall, it’s a great option if you want something more intimate and easygoing in Tulum."

"We had such a great stay at La Valise Tulum! From the moment we stepped into the hotel through the large white modern disc gate, we were greeted with a warm welcome. They expected our arrival as they reached out days before to find out when we would be arriving so they would be ready for us. As we checked in, they inquired what kind of welcome drink we wanted and a few minutes later we were provided with delicious margaritas which was a welcome treat after our long drive from Merida. After checking in, we were promptly shown to our room. We booked the Upper Beachfront room. It was on the second floor of an A-framed structure with bamboo walls and thatched roof. It was well-appointed--not super luxe—but totally fit the beachy vibe. Our bed faced the window looking out to the beach and ocean, with a sweet balcony with two chairs and a little table. La Valise Tulum is a boutique hotel that is fairly small with 22 rooms: 11 rooms on the beach side and 11 rooms across the street on the jungle side. Their pool, bar and casual restaurant is also across the street on the jungle side, as well as their fine dining restaurant, Nu. We ate at Nu our first night. Although it is fine dining, it didn’t feel stuffy. The service was attentive and fun. The cocktails are inventive and the food was delicious. They use locally sourced, organic and exotic ingredients that honors the local Mayan cuisine. I had the prawns, which were from a nearby town of Campeche. They were large, plump and sweet, in the best way. We retired full and happy, and the waves lulled us to sleep. The delicious and fresh breakfast was complimentary with our stay. It included a generous assortment such as fresh juices, fruit, yogurt, coffee, and choice of entrée. The service was consistently upbeat and friendly throughout our stay. My Spanish is not great, but we had zero issues with communication. They were able to accommodate us in every way."

"La Valise is a small 22 room boutique hotel at the southern end of the hotel district. Upon arrival my group was offered a choice of a welcome drink which were great and a nice touch! They let us know they did have two rooms available for upgrade and asked if we wanted to see the rooms first. We did a tour with one of the managers which was nice vs. them just choosing our rooms. All the rooms we saw were unique and I believe only had outdoor showers. The staff was super attentive, coming around often and checking in on whatsapp. They did a lovely welcome amenity and a great turndown service. Since the hotel is partially in the jungle it also has a lot of bugs. At night they light a lot of incense around the property which seemed to help with the bugs, but was very strong! Make sure to dine at NU - it was a great experience and food. Overall, I would highly recommend this hotel for couples or small groups looking for a boutique hotel with a nature feeling."

"**I can’t say enough good things about our stay at La Valise.** The concierge team was absolutely amazing—so warm, attentive, and helpful throughout our entire stay. We arrived early around 1 PM and were able to check in right away, which was such a great start to the trip. Granted, we were visiting in the off-season, but it was still a pleasant surprise! We were also upgraded from the jungle side to an ocean-view room. Just a heads-up for future guests: the property is split between two sides of the road. One side includes the lobby, main pool, a restaurant, and jungle rooms, while the other side has an outdoor check-in desk, beachfront dining, and the stunning ocean-view rooms. The concierge arranged our roundtrip airport transfers, which gave us peace of mind—especially traveling as just two girls in Mexico. While the transfers were on the pricier side (just under $500 roundtrip from Tulum Airport), the reliability and convenience made it worthwhile. They also helped us book dining reservations (every recommendation was top tier), spa treatments, and even yoga and local experiences. The spa treatment was lovely, and the $100 spa credit was a great perk. Overall, everything felt seamless, elevated, and incredibly thoughtful. We’d absolutely return."

"I recently took the opportunity to do a site visit at La Valise, while I was in Tulum, as I have honeymoon clients staying there later this year. I was aware of the hotel's reputation as one of the higher end, and more expensive, properties in Tulum and wanted to see for myself what the difference is. La Valise is located towards the end of the beach road in a district called SoTu (South Tulum). Per the concierge giving me the tour, this is an official district, where the businesses have an agreement to keep the area clean & quieter. Tulum has changed drastically in the last 10-15 years, and is now filled with beach clubs, loud music, and tons of hotels & restaurants, so I really appreciated this difference. And while many of the other hotels have staff standing outside trying to get you to come in to their beach club, La Valise does not allow outside guests. Love this for honeymooners & people looking for more privacy. There are two sides to the hotel, 11 rooms on the beach side, and 11 on the jungle side. The beach side is older, and also has two very small pools, a restaurant, and beach beds. When I visited, the sargassum was particularly bad, and it seemed many hotels had almost given up trying to keep up with removing it. Across the street is the newer side of the property, and unless you/your clients insist on an ocean view, this is where I would stay. There is a large pool, undoubtedly the best in Tulum, a bar/restaurant, and a spa. This is true private jungle boho vibes. My favorite rooms were one with a private cenote (you cannot swim in it), and the top floor suite with their famous roll out bed & sunset views over the jungle. On the jungle side they also have a Michelin guide recommended restaurant Nu, where guests get 10% off. The hotel can help arrange transfers, activities, and special amenities or room decorations for birthdays, anniversaries etc. Please reach out if you would like the names of my contacts. "This was my third time staying at this hotel and each time has been incredible. It’s part of the Small Luxury Hotels of The World Limited group and it is both small and luxurious. The vibe is chic, relaxed, beach rustic, and exactly what you imagine when you think of Tulum. This is an ideal location for a honeymoon, baby moon, or those that just want to feel like they’re a million miles away from their reality. The entrance is unassuming with a path of round step stones in the white sand surrounded by foliage that lead to the check-in desk where you’ll be welcomed with a delicious cocktail. After a brief description of the hotel’s amenities, you’ll then be shown to your room accompanied by your luggage. There are very few rooms at this hotel, there were only nine when I started traveling to Tulum. There are six on the ocean side, literally steps from the ocean. The most desirable rooms are the three breezy suites on the top floor, with vaulted ceilings and floor to ceiling windows with balconies overlooking the beach and unobstructed views of the ocean. The middle of these three rooms, the Grand Master Suite, is the best room in the hotel, with a ladder to a hammock facing a small window for watching the sunset and a king bed on rails that can be pulled onto the large deck for watching the stars. If it’s in the budget and it’s available, book this room! The rest of the rooms are along the path leading to the “lobby” (more of a cozy sitting area where breakfast is served) and the newest rooms are on what they call the “cenote” side. This side also has three top floor suites that mirror the ocean side without the view. All of the rooms have AC. There’s reliable wifi throughout the property but there are no phones or TVs. There are two small pools on the ocean side flanking the lobby entrance and a larger pool on the cenote side. You can order drinks and cocktails from both or can choose to have the drinks brought up to your room. There’s now a spa that I didn’t have the chance to visit but just a step into the entrance is relaxing. There’s also a boutique with easy-breezy outfits if you need to elevate your look to match the location. The beach is picture perfect with the whitest, softest sand I’ve ever experienced. There are crews working early in the morning to rake up seaweed and have it removed during prolific seaweed seasons. The staff at this hotel will know your name and are eager to help in any way during your stay. They all speak English and Spanish at a minimum. Breakfast is included in the perks we can offer and it is substantial, with fruit, granola and yogurt, an entree like avocado toast or poached eggs with cherry tomatoes and polenta, coffee and a freshly squeezed juice. Nu, right across the street, is a true culinary experience. It’s recognized as one of the top five restaurants in Tulum and Rivera Maya, as well as being part of the Michelin Guide. It’s open to the public but guests at the hotel get 10% off. Reservations are highly recommended during the busy season, bug spray highly recommend all seasons. The servers are friendly, knowledgeable and will work with the chef to accommodate any dietary restrictions. The chef came out to make sure my husband enjoyed the vegan meal. There are a number of shops and restaurants within walking distance and many cenotes and the ruins a short cab ride away. Bikes are available for guests and they can provide airport transfers. This hotel is at the far end of Tulum, about two hours from the airport and an hour and a half from Rivera Maya, but absolutely a world away from the all-you-can-eat buffets and cruise ships in Cancun. From the time you make the reservation to the very sad moment you have to leave, La Valise works to make your stay seamless with constant communication and attentiveness to your needs and requirements."

While the jungle-side experience had its quirks, La Valise Tulum remains an unforgettable blend of nature and luxury, perfect for a romantic getaway or peaceful retreat. "First let me say that I was coming directly from stays at Nizuc in Cancun and Etereo on Riviera Maya, so was used to luxury. La Valise is a solid four star property. Definitely not for those seeking luxury. It offers rooms on the beach side as well as across the street. The staff was wonderful and breakfast was great. We had a room where you could roll the bed outside if you wished, however, this is not something we could or would ever do because of the heat and bugs. While the idea is cool, it is not at all practical. Tulum is a wonderful destination to feel off the grid but is overall not a great destination for those seeking 5 star luxury. While we were there the sargassum was piled in a large heap that we could not even jump over to reach the water. It is really sad that so many destinations are battling this. I hate it for them. There was no good method in place in 2023 to remove this nuisance from the sea. Perhaps things are different now. Overall this property would be a good choice for clients wanting a solid four star, with the charm of thatched roofs, who are looking to get off the grid. But not your luxury clients."

"Hi everyone, I have been meaning to share this since I returned over a month ago from a stay at La Valise in Tulum as part of a fam trip with representation company MJL Select. To get to Tulum, you need to land in Cancun and take a 2ish hour transfer (when no traffic) from Cancun to Tulum. The experience of walking out of Cancun airport is quite overwhelming with lots of drivers trying to get your attention, so it’s important to set up a transfer in advance. Ubers are currently not allowed to pick up passengers at Cancun airport. La Valise is part of a group of properties called Namron Hospitality. They own several other hotels in Tulum - Nest, Encantada, Rhadoo (which I also visited so am happy to answer any questions about those! They are all a notch or two down in terms of pricing and luxury and each have their own personality / ideal client profile.). There are also two new La Valise properties in Mexico - one in Mexico City and one in San Miguel de Allende. Among other things, La Valise is famous for its iconic bed on rails. Some rooms have beds that slide out on to the balcony (see attached pictures!). I actually happened to meet the designer behind these beds and was fully starstruck. La Valise is adults-only and is definitely for those seeking an elevated Tulum experience. It would be perfect for honeymooners and couples, but could also work well for a 40th birthday or a wellness getaway. La Valise Tulum is divided into two properties - la Valise beachside (on the beach side of the strip, with direct access to the beach, and several rooms with sea view, no pool) and la Valise Jungle (across the street, no sea view, have to cross over to the other property for beach access but has a gorgeous pool). If you have clients for whom the seaview is a dealbreaker, then I would go with the beachfront property - but if they are not fussed about a sea view, then I definitely prefer la Valise Jungle. The reason is that the beachfront property existed before La Valise bought it so they kept some of the preexisting structure - which means smaller rooms. However, la Valise Jungle was built from scratch very recently, so the rooms are much larger, more airy. The decor in both is the same. You can also freely move between the two properties - use the beach at one, the pool at the other, and have breakfast at either. In terms of accessibility, the jungle side has a few rooms that are on the ground floor, so more accessible. There are also actual pathways made of concrete, rather than just sand, so it is easier to get around on the jungle side. La Valise also offers a large and gorgeous spa with many treatment rooms. There is also a restaurant next door that is owned by La Valise called Nu. It is walking distance from several shops and lots of popular restaurants. You can also take a complimentary bike or short cab ride down the strip to some of the other shops, restaurants and beach clubs. In terms of experiences, clients can truly just relax and enjoy the Tulum vibes (spa, beaching, beach clubbing, eating), or they can also do some sightseeing/experiences: e.g. visit the Tulum ruins, take a guided trip to a private cenote (highly recommend over the public ones that are super crowded) or through the Sian Kaan nature reserve.
