"We arrived in La Zebra without a reservation — but with luxury insurance: the advice of the fantastic Mezzanine Orchid, also from the Colibrì Hotels group. We wanted to see the rooms, feel the place... choose at the moment. And never choice was happier. Since our arrival we have met a staff of rare kindness. A huge thank you to Catalina and David: helpful, smiling, impeccable. They showed us two options, and then it happened: the Casita. Love at first sight. It is the only one of its kind in the entire hotel: intimate, authentic, small only in size but great in character. A little gem with a private garden where time slows down and Tulum seems to speak to you in a whisper. We immediately felt at home... a house overlooking the sea, detail not bad! The restaurant strikes the perfect balance between quality flavors and relaxed atmosphere — curated dishes, fresh ingredients and service that pampers you without ever being intrusive. The beach club is an invitation to pure bliss: comfortable loungers, transparent sea, great cocktails and that holiday air that embraces you and tells you: “Don’t move from here.” In summary: The Zebra is everything you imagine when you dream of Tulum... close to the nightlife but super quiet and relaxed, with a big heart and lots of special people backstage. "UPDATED REVIEW FROM A REPEAT GUEST I had such a great time at La Zebra last year, I decided to book it again with the hopes everything would've remained the same. I guess nothing stays the same and no two trips are alike. We had an unfortunate incident on route with our transportation breaking down due to a flat tire which set the tone for the trip. Luckily Juan Carlos, the best employee at this place saved the day for us. Service in the restaurant and on the beach wasn't good at all regardless of attempts by some of the Managers to oversee it. Food quality appeared to be not as high. Security needs to be better in preventing some "deals" that were happening right in front of our eyes while trying to relax beachfront and regardless of how pretty or tranquil a place appears on the surface, this activity represents a threat to guest safety. I wasn't thrilled with our room which was number 8 and farthest from the beach (although there really is no bad room as all of them have ocean views) however certain priorities should be in place for repeat guests. Everyone at the front desk is warm and welcoming and Juan Carlos in particular is the glue that is currently holding La Zebra together. He really was the saving grace for us this time around, always upbeat and ready to solve any problem that came his way; service with a smile. He also recommended the best restaurants for a local, authentic experience and found another more reliable transportation company to take us back to the airport. He really is at another level of what you'd expect from a hotel in this class. While I absolutely adore every part of Mexico, the culture, the food and the people, the infrastructure of Tulum cannot support the number of guests, hotels and the continuous building that's ongoing here, inevitably affecting the guest experience. La Zebra has probably had to make some adjustments and perhaps if this was my first trip there I wouldn't have been able to feel the areas in which they've scaled back or have chosen to not address some things in need of improvement . Still it remains a gorgeous place in a perfect location in a beautiful country."
"This place is paradise! We stayed for a week in the Beachfront Plunge Pool room and we couldn't be happier with our choice. La Zebra is truly a luxury boutique hotel with the ideal location, impeccable hospitality and delicious food. The room was beautifully decorated and the housekeeping staff kept it sparkling clean through our stay. The turndown service was a warm touch and we really appreciated the little surprise treats every evening. The room came with a reserved beach bed which was amazing. The beach bar staff were so friendly and prompt with keeping our mezcalita glasses full! We loved the restaurant as well. Special thanks to Felipe, Roger and German who were all so polite, knowledgeable and gave great recommendations. Another great perk is we could walk to the neighboring Lula hotel and get resident rates on their wellness classes (AMAZING studio!) and fantastic spa treatments. We also appreciate La Zebra promoting local artists by displaying their vibrant pieces on the property. We will definitely be visiting again! No complaints!"

"Location & Nearby Activities: - Only 5-10 minutes away from the best restaurants and some boutiques where you can find unique Tulum style fashion items! - There is also a street food area right across the hotel with various delicious alternatives (burgers, tacos, chicken wings, sandwiches, sushi, pizza, crepes) with a nice bar in the middle. It's affordable and delicious! We also came across a couple of musicians playing live mexican music which was an amazing experience! - While being close to all attractions it is far away enough from the northern part where it gets really loud and noisy at night. The only sound we heard at La Zebra was the sound of the waves! Wellness/Spa/Massage: - Their sister hotel next door offers yoga sessions and exercise sessions (eg Jungle Gym) in the mornings and afternoons at the beach where you enjoy the view and sound of the waves. You can easily book from their website or ask the front desk to set it up for you. - In Tulum, I wouldn't expect a lot from Massage services in general - it's not Thailand! But the deep tissue massage I got at Lula was really good (masseuse's name: Vicky). Service: - Front Desk: Front desk was very helpful and easy to reach via whatsapp. Ricardo arranged our transfers and a private tour for us including guided visit to Coba ruins, 2 cenotes and lunch with a Mayan family. It is perfect if you have kids. The tour takes only about 5 hours and you get to learn a lot, experience a lot, see a lot and when you are back - you still have a few good hours to spend at the beach! The places Esteban recommended in downtown Tulum were all amazing! Both Ricardo and Esteban helped us with all our bookings. - They bring coffee in the mornings and herbal tea in the afternoons to your room. Which allows you to have your morning coffee with the ocean view in the morning and relax before dinner. The local chocolates they offer with the tea was delicious that I bought a few bars to take home! - Beach: The service at the beach was a bit slow but compared to Tulum standards it was acceptable. The staff are very friendly. Food and Drinks: - Good variety of food available including healthy options and kids friendly options. - You can enjoy local or national beer, various cocktails made with tequila and mezcal or have classic cocktails. - They have Taco Thursdays and Street Food Sundays where you get to taste different local food and enjoy live music performance & shows. I highly recommend to try at least one of these during your stay! Rooms: - we stayed at a beach front room with plunge pool. As soon as you step outside the room you are at the beach. You can see the ocean from your bed. We enjoyed the warm plunge pool in the afternoons. - The rooms are very spacious and clean. They are surprisingly good at keeping it so clean despite all the sand going around! - Plenty of space for your clothes and empty suitcases."
"My partner and I looked at SO many options before booking La Zebra. We wanted to experience Tulum in a relaxed way. After reading reviews (like this one, I hope!), we landed on La Zebra thanks to its humble, family-friendly, safe, and gorgeous location. A week or two before our stay, the concierge WhatsApped asking if we had any questions, needed transportation, or wanted help booking activities/restaurants. This was incredibly helpful and made us feel so welcome. Arriving at La Zebra is like a dream. The staff immediately welcomes you with complimentary drinks and gives you a quick tour of the grounds. Our room was SPOTLESS, big, and gorgeous for the two of us. The bed was very comfortable, the AC worked like a charm and the shower, well, I'll let you see for yourself. My partner was on the fence about getting the plunge pool LOL we used it every single day, multiple times a day. The staff maintained the water, foot bath, and area around the pool. This is your sign: get the plunge pool. Each room opens to the direction of the ocean, with a few overlooking the ocean. We didn't get a room with a view, but in fact, we liked it better because it offered us the privacy we wanted. All plunge pool rooms are on the ground floor-- it's like walking out into paradise. The staff is incredible, warm, hardworking, and so friendly-- the waiters, cabana crew, front desk, room service, and everyone in between. The food is SO FRESH, local, and made with love. "My husband and I had an amazing time staying at La Zebra hotel, a cute and luxurious boutique hotel. The rooms were spacious and comfortable, offering breathtaking views of both the beach and the jungle. The hotel staff provided exceptional service, cleaning our room during the day and preparing it for the night by closing the curtains, setting up the bed, and leaving delicious treats and tea. The staff was incredibly friendly and cheerful, always checking if we needed anything and promptly attending to our requests. The hotel's restaurant was a highlight, serving delicious authentic Mexican food with an amazing view of the beach. While we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, there were a couple of things to note. The amount of seaweed on the beach prevented us from swimming, which is an issue affecting many Caribbean beaches and not the hotel's fault. Additionally, the prices seemed to be catered to tourists, with meals being significantly more expensive than in the US. The surrounding resorts, restaurants, and stores offered similar pricing, and Tulum city is not within walking distance, leaving limited options for exploring without taking a cab, which costs around US$60 for a round trip. Overall, La Zebra hotel provided a wonderful and memorable experience, and we would highly recommend it for a luxurious and relaxing getaway."

"We stayed in La Zebra in mid January for 4 nights. I wished I booked longer. It is located on georgous Tulum beach with white sands and Palm trees. The beach club and food is really good. The ambiance is really nice. Our room was located on the beach with a plunge pool, which was heated whenever we asked for it. The room was very spacious with a nice decoration, exclusive Mexican atmosphere. The room is cleaned everyday. We found hot ginger tea and chocolates every night when we arrived in our room. You have everything ready in the room, from umbrellas to yoga mats, brewed Mexican coffee. Front desk team, Lucy, Ricardo, Estaban were great. Our special thanks to Juan Carlos, he helped us in everthing we asked for, from restaurant recommendations to private excursions. I would definetely recommend La Zebra to anyone travelling to Tulum. Come with or without children. Tulum Tips: The parties in Tulum begin with brunch, continues with sunset, dinner and night. Entertainment anytime of the day:))) Everything is perfect. You can put slippers in the room."

The beach staff and especially Marco bring strong skills to make sure you enjoy the day and are never without a cold drink or delicious food while chilling directly in front of beautiful blue water and sugar sand beach. The room air conditioner works very well and the housekeeping staff are discrete yet keep attention to detail to ensure you are comfortable in your room. The front desk staff are very capable and are ready to help with any question or issue that might arrive. Private hotel parking is available and is located directly across the street. Great place for a Tulum vacation for couples or families without the loud obnoxious party scene!"
"Wow what a fabulous place - nestled among the jungles of Tulum, this hotel is great across the board. We had a very nice room with the in-ground hot tub/pool - we were able to gather around the pool in the evenings unwinding from the day and getting ready for the Tulum dinner clubs. The tub/ground level access also made it very easy to get down to the beach and restaurant. The restaurant itself - amazing! Nice views, stellar service, and excellent food! There were options for everyone including those in our group who were plant based or had food allergies. The beach area also had special shaded day beds with easy beach access (safe, well kept) and food/drink service. The location of the hotel was also excellent - we were very walkable to the dinner clubs Rosa Negra, Gitano, Toro etc and other popular spots like Sinner and Taboo. Lots of miscellaneous food and drink options were nearby and even public paid parking within walking distance for visiting guests. Another highlight was the spa - three of us were able to get massages at the same time (they brought in additional staff to accommodate us!) and then relax on the shaded rooftop afterwards. The front desk service and other staff across the hotel were amazing as well. We loved the in room perks like the robes, pool towels, bug spray, water for brushing etc. The only thing that would be nice if they were able to provide more drinking water or at least have some options for grab & go or refillable type water that wasn't only a part of the minibar. We didn't get to participate in the available programming like yoga and dance lessons, but we will definitely be back to enjoy the hotel and its activities again in the future."

"I rarely leave negative reviews, but our experience at La Zebra was disappointing enough that I feel obligated to share it for future guests. The property itself is beautiful, and some members of the staff were genuinely pleasant. Unfortunately, when we encountered a significant problem, the level of service fell far below what I would expect from a hotel in this price range. The biggest issue was our room’s air conditioning. It stopped working overnight on the first night. We reported it around 1:00 a.m., and the night staff member was kind and believed it was still functioning, so we tried to get through the night. We were traveling with our five year old and were too exhausted to move rooms in the middle of the night. The following morning we explained that the room was still unbearably hot (90+ F) Rather than moving us to another room, we were asked to wait while maintenance tried to repair the unit. Hours passed with almost no communication unless we went to the front desk ourselves. In total, we spent nearly 20 hours without a comfortable, air conditioned room during July heat and humidity, including several hours while maintenance worked in the room with drills and equipment. We had nowhere comfortable to rest during the heat. Eventually we were moved to a different room. The hotel described it as an upgrade because it was larger, but we lost the plunge pool and ocean view that we had specifically booked. From our perspective, it was simply a room with functioning air conditioning, not an upgrade. What was most surprising was not that the air conditioning failed. Problems happen. It was the response. Throughout the experience, no one acknowledged how disruptive the situation had been or offered an apology. After hours of waiting, I eventually went to the front desk in tears from exhaustion and frustration, and that was the first time anyone apologized. It left me with the impression that this was not the fault of any individual employee, but rather a service culture that lacked urgency, ownership, and proactive communication when guests experienced a serious issue. There were several smaller moments that reinforced this feeling. We requested bug spray that had been available in our original room, but it never arrived. Then, as we were leaving the property, a staff member came out to our car to charge us $30 USD for bottled water and soft drinks from the minibar in our replacement room (which we assumed were kindly included due to our poor experience), despite there being no visible pricing information at all. After everything else, it was a disappointing way to end the stay. Luxury hospitality is not about having a perfect property. It is about how guests are treated when something goes wrong. Throughout this experience, we never felt that our family’s basic comfort was treated with the urgency it deserved. We left feeling dismissed and tracked down for money rather than cared for. I cannot recommend La Zebra based on our experience, and I would not choose to stay here again."

"This is a solid 4* property with 50 rooms just south of the bustle yet easy to walk anywhere.
Rooms are airy with A/C; ground floors add plunge pools and instant beach access, while some garden units pick up road noise. A new sports bar upstairs also sports a mini golf course with a couple of holes which is fun for the family. Staff is well trained and aims to please. Very good at remembering names and preferences.
There are complimentary cabana beds with beach service. The spa is heavenly and the gym overlooks the water. If you rent a car there is complimentary parking across the street which is a huge bonus."

So it’s not at the beginning of the strip or towards the end which, in my opinion, is where you want to be. They shared these photos. The only downside of being there in July is that it is Sargassum season and very hard for the hotel(s) to control, making it harder to swim."

"Here I sit at the Tulum International Airport sad to be leaving after spending 6 days in Tulum at Le Zebra. It was my 4th time in Tulum in the past 12 years, but my first time staying at La Zebra and it did not disappoint!!
A couple of weeks before our arrival Concierge, Lucy, emailed me (not knowing I am a Travel Advisor) asking if we needed help with airport transfers, dinner reservations, spa reservations, day trips, on-site activities, or just general Tulum information. I booked the tortilla and salsa making class for myself and my 16 year old daughter. More on that below.
At Tulum International we picked up our pre-reserved car and drove about 50 minutes to the hotel. Upon arrival at La Zebra we were warmly greeted at the outdoor reception desk, and there sat Lucy! It was nice to see the person I had been in communications with. Check in was a breeze and we were escorted to our room. Followed by our luggage and a La Zebra signature margarita for each of us! I had several of those while there 😊
My description of La Zebra is boho, tropical, rustic charm. Laidback vibes for sure! This is a **TOES IN THE SAND kind of place!!** If you didn’t leave the property you’d never have to put shoes on. You can literally go to breakfast, lunch and dinner in the open air, palapa-roof restaurant on the beach barefoot! If your client has a problem with seeing bare feet while eating this may not be their place 😆
I cannot say enough about the people that work at La Zebra! They all were absolutely amazing. Quickly learning our names, always courteous, attentive, and smiling. I was as sad to say goodbye to them as I was Tulum.
The beach sun beds (about 30) were reserved for hotel guests at no additional charge. The service was great, as was the chill music playing throughout the day. The beach was perfect, and while the sargassum season was starting to pick up, the hotel staff were doing their best to keep it as clear as possible on a daily basis.
As mentioned above, my daughter and I did a tortilla and salsa making class in a covered area off the side of the restaurant facing the beach. We thoroughly enjoyed it. Very fun and we learned a few things along the way that we’ll try back at home. At end of the class we were able to sit and eat what we made along with a platter full of small tacos (all included in the price of the class). My husband joined us to eat as it was so much food!
**ROOMS:** All of the 30 rooms are basically the same with slight variations. You either have Beachfront, Beach View, or Garden suites. Ground floor rooms have a nice sized patio with plunge pool and 2nd floor rooms have a large balcony. Both have sofa and chairs for relaxing. All ground floor rooms are basically **toes in the sand** as soon as you step out!! Our garden room was surrounded by manicured vegetation and tucked back into a quiet spot. I loved it! We were in our beachside sun bed in like 45 seconds! The size was perfect for myself, husband, and daughter. We had a comfy king bed, and my daughter had a comfy twin that was actually roomy. Double sinks in the bathroom were a plus as was the large walk-in shower with 2 shower heads. Our A/C worked amazingly!
**LOCATION:** La Zebra resides in a perfect location in my opinion. It’s just at the southern edge of the hustle and bustle, but only minutes walk to everything on the beach road.
**I highly recommend** La Zebra! Especially for your clients that want a chilled, relaxed vibe, but still want nice accommodations and to feel taken care of by the hotel they are staying at. La Zebra WOULD NOT BE APPROPRIATE for clients that want larger scale, luxury, all-inclusive hotels."

"I just got back from La Zebra in Tulum and I wanted to share my experience.
My favorite things about La Zebra is that is truly a beachfront boutique hotel with only 30 rooms and situated directly on one of Tulum's most stunning beaches.
It has a vibrant atmosphere without the party scene. It’s also great for families, for its multiple offerings as well as rooms that can fit 2 adults and 2 kids. It has a laid-back luxury feel with an authentic Mexican flair, a rare combination!
**Accommodations:** The hotel features different room categories, each just steps away from the beach. Many rooms offer stunning beach views, some come with small private plunge pools (ground floor) or balconies. All rooms are equipped with air conditioning and a minimal but warm decor.
*For noise sensitive clients, it would be better not to book the Garden View room category as most of them are pretty close to the road and some traffic noise can be heard from those rooms. All the other room categories are very quiet.
**Dining and Amenities:** Their restaurant and bar, serves Mexican cuisine from local and seasonal ingredients. Their breakfast menu is excellent! I highly recommend the Thai restaurant from their other hotel Mezzanine. The hotel also offers experiences such as a chef's table for intimate gatherings.
The beauty of Tulum is that the food offering is endless, so many great restaurant for all tastes and it’s very walkable (or with bike) so you never feel stuck having to eat at the restaurant of the hotel!
**Activities and Experiences:** La Zebra offers activities like cooking classes, mezcal tasting, my son loved a painting class he did with Ernesto, a local artist. For families, there's an on-site playground in the sand!
Regarding wellness, as the hotel next door (Lula) is now also part of the same group, their excellent yoga and fitness classes and space can be used by La Zebra guests for a discounted rate.
**My Feedback:** Exceptional friendly staff, fantastic rooms, best location and great atmosphere!
It’s an excellent option for honeymooners, family vacation, or a solo trip, for guests who want a more authentic experience and are not looking for big resorts."

"I did a mother-daughter trip here with my 19-year-old daughter and we loved it. Our room was super pretty and creative—really comfortable with a big king bed, a large day bed, and a nice deck overlooking the property with a little sea view.
The concierge was super helpful and handled all our transport and dinner reservations over WhatsApp, which made everything really easy.
I really liked the small boutique vibe—definitely has a boho-chic feel. We spent most of our time on the sun loungers by the beach. They fill up fast, so we made sure to get out there early to grab one. Lunch out there on the day beds was great—super relaxed and tasty.
The sea moss gets cleaned up by the hotel each morning, and honestly, I didn’t think it was a big deal at all. Once you get out far enough in the water, it clears up.
We walked to dinner most nights and always felt safe.
This isn’t for your super luxe clients—it’s not trying to be that kind of place. But if you're into a laid-back, cool spot with good energy, this place really hits the mark."
