Questions before an unplanned stay

Questions about booking this hotel for this stay

Which room at Komaneka at Bisma works if we want to stay outside and book nothing else?

The Bisma Suite is 88 square meters, with a private veranda, a daybed, a rattan swing chair, and a table looking onto the rice terraces and the Campuhan gorge. The one-bedroom pool villa is a separate compound with a 30-square-meter plunge and an outdoor pavilion. Book one of those two. Family suites and the larger villas are built for more than two, and families with children stay in them. Yoga at 8:00 in the Wanasmara chapel, a riverside spa treatment, and an afternoon session making offerings or carving wood are available, and you do not have to book any of them. You can eat and sit outside from breakfast until evening. After dark the bedroom and bathroom lights are dim, so it is hard to read in the room.

Can breakfast and dinner come to the room at Komaneka at Bisma, and is there a delivery charge?

Staff serve breakfast at Seneng Kitchen from 7:00 to 10:30 or 11:00 and will bring it to the suite veranda or the villa deck. They will also set dinner outside at any hour. Both meals are menu price, with no delivery charge. Nasi goreng and crispy fried duck are easy orders on the veranda. Complimentary afternoon tea is served at 4:00 in the lobby or at Seneng Kitchen.

How quiet is Komaneka at Bisma once you are past the driveway, including at night?

The gate is on Jalan Bisma. The driveway drops toward the river. On the veranda you hear birds, irrigation water, and the gorge. After dark you hear frogs, crickets, geckos, and the Campuhan River. You can sit outside together for hours in that quiet. Scooters still pass the western entrance, and daytime construction on a neighboring property sometimes interrupts that quiet. The river and the frogs continue through the night, so a light sleeper will hear them from the bed.

How much stair-climbing does a slow day at Komaneka at Bisma still involve?

Check-in is on level 4. The suites and villas are below it, on stairs, ramps, and boardwalks, and wet bathroom marble is slick underfoot. In a two-bedroom pool villa, the bedrooms and the kitchenette are separate pavilions, so getting a drink in the rain means walking outside. In the Bisma Suite and the one-bedroom pool villa, the bed, the meal, and the outdoor seat are in one place, which fits a day with very little walking. You still climb when you arrive, and again if you go down toward the river. Steep stairs are a real problem if either of you has trouble walking.

If we stay in all day at Komaneka at Bisma, how hard is it to walk into Ubud later?

Ubud Palace and the central market are a 12 to 15 minute walk from the gate. The Sacred Monkey Forest is about 10 minutes south. Cafes and small restaurants line Jalan Bisma just outside the driveway. You can spend the day on the veranda and take that walk once, later in the day.

How does Komaneka at Bisma compare with Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan if we spend most of the day there?

Komaneka at Bisma is down a driveway off Jalan Bisma, and Ubud Palace is a 12 to 15 minute walk from the gate. Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan is a valley resort too, and the ride from there into central Ubud takes about 30 to 45 minutes. If you spend the day on the veranda, you can still walk into town from Komaneka at Bisma without arranging a car. The same outing from Sayan is a long ride each way.

How reliable is the Wi-Fi at Komaneka at Bisma if we are not planning to work?

Wi-Fi at Komaneka at Bisma is uneven and often slow. That gets in the way of a video call, and of opening a map before a walk into town. Save what you need before you go out to the veranda for the afternoon.

Does it rain a lot at Komaneka at Bisma, or only during part of the day?

Through November to March, a heavy shower usually comes in the afternoon. April to October is drier, and mornings are clearer. The Bisma Suite veranda is covered, so you can stay at that table in the rain. Paths on the hill will be wet.

Is the main pool at Komaneka at Bisma heated, and is the one-bedroom villa pool warm?

The one-bedroom pool villa has its own plunge, with loungers on the timber deck. That plunge and the main pool are unheated. The water stays cool in the shade and under a cloudy sky. If it is too cold for a swim, you can spend the afternoon on the loungers.

How often does the shuttle at Komaneka at Bisma go into Ubud?

A complimentary shuttle runs three or four times a day between Komaneka at Bisma, Ubud Palace, and central Ubud. Staff can also arrange a ride when a driver is free. Take it if you do not want to walk back uphill in the heat.

Do the one-bedroom pool villas at Komaneka at Bisma have an outdoor shower?

Yes. The one-bedroom pool villa has an indoor rain shower that opens onto a private outdoor shower in the garden, and the bathroom connects to the plunge. You can bathe outside and stay in the villa for the rest of the afternoon.

Does Komaneka at Bisma have an onsite spa?

Wana Jiwa Spa is at Komaneka at Bisma, in open cottages over the Campuhan River. During a treatment you hear the river. You can book a Balinese massage or a longer treatment with a soak facing the gorge. Reaching the spa means walking down the valley stairs from the room. If you would rather not add that walk, stay on the veranda.
