On a Bisma Suite veranda, or the deck of a one-bedroom pool villa, guests at Komaneka at Bisma sit outside. Staff bring breakfast from Seneng Kitchen to the daybed and the swing at the menu price. From there the view is the rice terraces and the Campuhan River. Down the driveway off Jalan Bisma, the road noise drops. Ubud Palace is a twelve-to-fifteen-minute walk when they want it. Reception is on the top floor, and the stairs toward the pool and the river are steep enough that guests with bad knees have a hard time on the slope. Guests in rooms near the gate can still hear scooters or construction next door. After dark the frogs, geckos, and the river stay loud, and light sleepers wake through the night.
We gathered every publicly available review of Komaneka at Bisma from TripAdvisor, Booking.com, Expedia, Google, Trip.com, and Agoda, along with TripAdvisor tips and TripAdvisor questions and answers, to sort them for a couple spending the day without a plan. The reviews come from every kind of guest. Negative feedback, off-peak accounts, and guests who disagree stay in on the same terms as praise. A review stays whether the guest was pleased or unhappy, and none of those sources gets to dominate the others. Reviews from stays organized around something other than those unplanned hours were filtered out, and that means all of them. A family visit built around children's workshops is one example of what was set aside, among many other kinds of stays. The closer a review is to a couple spending the day without a plan at Komaneka at Bisma, the more weight it got. A star rating did not decide which reviews counted more. What matters is the quiet past the private driveway, a Bisma Suite veranda or a one-bedroom plunge, and breakfast brought there at menu price with no delivery charge. Past the driveway, guests hear the river, the birds, and the frogs. On a Bisma Suite they have breakfast on the veranda, and they sit on the swing or the daybed with the rice terraces in front of them. In a one-bedroom pool villa they have breakfast beside the private plunge. Ubud Palace is a walk of about 12 to 15 minutes, and the Monkey Forest is about 10. The walk, morning yoga at 8:00, and the spa by the river matter for this trip when the couple leaves them unused. A day that books the yoga, a spa treatment, and a walk into town belongs with the stays that were set aside. A Bisma Suite veranda or a one-bedroom plunge is where a couple can spend the day with no plan, once staff have brought the meals there. The river and the night frogs are loud enough to make sleep hard for a light sleeper. Scooters at the Jalan Bisma entrance, and construction on neighboring sites, still interrupt some rooms. The lobby is on Level 4 and the grounds step down toward the river, so guests take steep stairs between them. Once the bathroom marble is wet, it is slick underfoot. In a detached two-bedroom villa, rain means walking outside to get from the bedroom to the kitchenette. At night the lamps in the bedroom and the bathroom are too low to read by.
"We returned in April 2015 to Komaneka Bisma for a two night’s stay. This is our third time staying at this Resort which has been awarded the 2015 Travellers' Choice Award. Check in was a breeze - we are, after all, “family", returning ’home’; and our records are on file!! The Resort staff always welcome guest back to ‘your home’ even if you’re returning to the Resort from a shopping trip in Ubud! We requested for a normal room with a view, not a pool villa, as this time, we would not be using the pool. From the moment we arrived till the time we left, it was pleasant greetings all round, smiles at every encounter with the staff, and polite good wishes! One can feel the warmth and sincerity of the staff, sense the keenness in wanting to do their best for the guests. Nothing is too small or little, nothing is too troublesome. This ‘can do’ attitude that is hard to come by these days, communicates confidence and comfort. The room we had was very clean, with amenities for all the comforts of home. Bottled water provided include two bottles in the toilet, four in the room bar and an additional two bottles by the bedside. A generous fruit basket on the desk consisted of oranges, Balinese tangerines, mangosteens, bananas, and the Indonesian buah salak (Snake shin fruit). In the room was a pot of flowering Phalaenopsis orchid, and a bowl of cut flowers. There’s frangipani and red rose petals on the bed and in the bath tub, infusing the air with their delicate scents. There’s plenty of reading material, even a medium sized jar containing home made chocolate cookies to munch on while watching TV. From dressing gowns, sleeping pyjamas, weighing machine, mosquito repellants, sun-hats, tooth paste and brushes, combs, torch-light, etc. every detail is looked into. The Room is quietly and promptly cleaned twice a day over the two days by a Team of people. Service at the restaurant is, as usual, just as excellent and hard to fault - polite, friendly, accommodative and genuine! The restaurant still serves food in good size portions and is reasonably priced. Dishes are beautifully presented, plated, and tasty. The Resort’s Bebek Goreng (fried crispy duck) is a must try! I always look forward to the morning plate of cut fruits. See the pictures attached. Such variety! The external surroundings, the wood-work, and paths ways are well cleaned and maintained; the gardens and grounds beautifully manicured, some interesting trees are labelled and this made it a pleasure to walk the paths to explore the Resort grounds. Hand railings are erected at steep slops, with appropriate warning signs to say be careful when it’s wet! These hand railings are wrapped with synthetic rattan, so your hands do not acquire that metallic rusty smell. I went to the chapel and found the place kept clean and in immaculate condition in spite of the ravages of the tropical weather. It is hard to ever become tired of this amazingly beautiful property. Sitting at the verandah on the 4th level, I imbibe the sounds of distant cascading water, the soft coos of the Peaceful doves from the surrounding lush greenery throughout the day. At night, the unfamiliar animal sounds, and more recognisable frogs’ croaking, crickets’ chirp and high pitched song of mating cicadas, come up from the darkness below. Indeed, from the moment you enter the drive way to the Resort porch, there’s a feeling of tranquility and serenity that augments the warmness of their greeting, “Welcome back to your home!” If your budget allows, a pool villa is very nice. It's certainly more romantic!"
"I am a senior executive in a large group of companies and travel is part of my life. I usually spend between 130 and 150 nights per year in hotels all over the World. It is only once in a blue moon that I will take a one week holiday to let go and unwind from the trials and tribulations of my work and market demands. This year I needed the space and found it. My girlfriend and I decided to go to Bali and stay in the surroundings of Ubud without knowledge of where would be a good place to stay, nor what was in store for us. I am thrilled to report one of the best hotel stays in my adult life. The Komaneka at Tanggayuda not only promises a family welcome home, it delivers it in style and complete efficiency and service. Set in a jungle-like valley behind Ubud, the hotel has been decorated by the owner's son, Mr. Neka, who is indeed an art collector and curator of several museums and galleries, in the region. Our villa boasted impressive fine art, let alone the gallery which is a permanent display of Mr. Neka's collection, as well as some art for sale. From the very first moment at airport pick up (our driver's name was Putu Astina) to the reception from Eva (guest relations manager) and Gek (reception manager) and her team. Upon arrival the words welcome home Bapak Ian and Ibu Julia (customary names for Sir and Madam). Owing to his very busy Christmas festivities schedule, I did not get to meet the hotel manager until the last day, but a big shout and congratulations go out to him for leading such a wonderful ship. All the staff we came in contact with, knew us by name as of the second day. On the first night, we were shown to our Garden Villa, which was impeccably clean, cool, and perfumed by flower petals of Rose and Frangipani, decorating the king-sized bed. The bathroom was really well designed and "en suite". It had a spacious shower, a huge bath and a really cool deck into the garden, which also had a rustic shower, as if a waterfall. A most delightful outdoor, but totally private hot shower experience encountering the plants from the garden, the starlit night sky and the incredible sounds from the jungle in which the hotel hides. Towels are changed twice daily. Food is taken very seriously by the hotel. Master Chef Gnakan leads a team of culinary specialists bringing forth the day to day favourites from Gnocchi al Funghi all the way through to the seafood Nasi Gorem (an absolute must). Their wide selection of Balinese specialties and Indonesian cooking as a whole, pays tribute to such a wonderful culture with their subtle spices and inspiring flavours.. Widi, Wika, MInah, Ra, Murtini to name just some of the serving team work discreetly and impeccably. The entire eating experience is heightened by the sound of the frogs and the Balinese musicians that frequent the floor above the dining hall, thereby offering a musical background without intrusion. Their masterful rhythms counterpointed by the flat frogs and tree frogs adding their own personal harmonies on the rainy evenings. Both my girlfriend and I are vegetarians and to our amazement and surprise, we found at our first meal that the staff had prepared for this fact. Menus with our names on them had been printed preserving only the dishes without meat. The chef, Gnakan and his team had prepared an entire menu for us for the length of our stay, which was to be 8 nights. Two magnificent infinity pools give residents the feeling of being in this tropical paradise alone. The staff change the towels and enquire as to your needs throughout your time poolside and also serve all meals and refreshments, as if appearing magically from nowhere. We were treated like king and queen throughout our entire stay. As we were leaving for the airport, we received goodbye presents and 5 staff members shaking our hands vigorously, while genuinely curious as to when they would see us again. This is a custom to all guests and even more endearing, since you cannot help feel that they have become truly close friends. This is theirs at the Komaneka, but coherent also with the Balinese charm. Congratulations! Messrs Koma and Neka. You have started a precedence and set the bar very high, in your 4 Ubud hotels (the fifth to be completed in 2017). Your staff have risen to the challenge and you have brought to us all a truly wonderful and glorious experience. Finally! We can state honestly that we have found, a hotel that really understands the meaning of welcome, combining impeccable service and quality. Thank you. The Garden Villas with a shower deck into the garden. Incredible!!"
"Komaneka at Bisma is tucked away in the middle of rice fields. This makes the hotel very peaceful and quiet, but not remote. The town center is just a short distance away. We would walk to town, even at night, and it was so safe and pleasant. Alternatively, the hotel provides a free shuttle to and from town too. Ubud is several hours away from Denpasar and the airport. So when we arrived at Komaneka Bisma, it was such a relief to be served very cold lemongrass tea while checking in. Check in was a breeze, and the staff were very warm and helpful. The rooms are very spacious and very well laid out. A huge sliding door leads out to your very own private, relaxing patio where you can be serenaded by crickets if you want to get into the spirit of Bali. Once you close the doors, the room is almost soundproof. Apple TV was available, along with some cookies replenished daily. The bathroom was adorable, and they sprinkled the bath with fresh rose petals. Herbal toiletries are also provided. On the bed, a fresh set of PJs were lain out for us. After a long and tiring flight (we had been travelling around the region for weeks), it was a treat to just lie down and relax in the bath, then jump into the PJs straight into bed, without having to unpack. The hotel pool is a salt water pool, which is healthier. We almost didn't want to go out anymore because it was so comfy in the hotel. The drinks from the mini-bar were not expensive, surprisingly. We tried room service and loved their white pizza (delicious even though a bit soggy), apple pork, and desserts with home-made ice cream. The staff are always ready to help and very polite. They keep the place spic and span. While it is true that there are many cheaper hotels in the area, Komaneka at Bisma is worth every penny. In fact, this hotel is one of the reasons why we would love to go back to Bali."
"WOW! I’m still in absolute AWE of our stay here! Luxurious, yet still intimate and quaint. And Balinese owned! So truly authentic too! Wow wow wow wow.The Komaneka resort is absolutely stunning, featuring the most tranquil, breathtaking infinity pool overlooking the forest and lush magnificent greenery all throughout. My personal favourite spot was the hammocks overlooking the forest where I read my novel enjoying the chirping birds and sounds of the waterfall.I would highly recommend staying in a villa which was absolutely stunning with such a meticulous attention to detail. From the extra adapters stored in a cute little box, flip flops, house made lotion, candlelit, bath, hats and a beautiful straw bag for your use and so many other wonderful amenities - it’s a must! Definitely worth it. Oh and that private infinity pool overlooking the forest. Wow.Don’t get me started on the massage- again definitely worth it. You are taken to this beautiful little room overlooking the rainforest allowing the peaceful sounds of the waterfall is to calm you as you sink deeper into the most dreamy state of relaxation.Morning yoga is held in this incredible room that felt like it was taken from a movie. Couldn’t believe it was all real. Buffet breakfast was absolutely delicious too.The staff were so beyond kind- honestly felt like a family. Special thanks to Prima and Dewa Ayu for their amazing service and kindness, always remembering our names and making us feel so at home.Overall, the resort was dreamlike. A little slice of heaven not far from the main strip. Perfection."
"We were charmed by the family feel and simple elegance of the place ("hotel", "resort" do not seem that appropriate given the feeling of privacy and small number of guests). We got a very very good last minute rate from Agoda and went for a deluxe room facing the rice padis and river for 2 nights. Sounds of the streams soothed our sleep, and the natural cream and rich woods of the room's decor set off the rich emerald greens of the valley all around us. Our minds wandered with the symphony of the forests around us and within 24 hours of setting foot in Komenaka, we felt truly peaceful. We actually loved just chilling in the spacious balcony of our room listening to the river. A couple spa treatment in a gorgeous spa villa gave us a taste of what the villas must be like - sheer heaven. We even had a tropical rainstorm during our massage to add to the ambience. Finally a complimentary yoga class in the gym facing the valley at sunset drove the last vestiges of stress from our mind and body. We became so comfortable we had to try the room service somehow expecting family flavours in the food as well, but that was the only reminder that we were in a hotel. The proximity to Central and convenient 'shuttle' (which always turned out to be our own private car) meant the restaurants and shops and all you need is still close by.... In all, a wonderful stay. Thanks Komeneka."
"We celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary at Komaneka at Bisma, and it truly was everything we dreamed of and more—an ideal "anniversary-moon." Nestled in lush, green, and tranquil surroundings, this beautiful resort became our peaceful sanctuary. Every day, we wandered the property’s scenic trails and always found something new and beautiful to admire—whether it was a bloom, a bird, or a view that took our breath away. Our room was stunning, with sweeping views of the rice terraces below and a supremely comfortable bed. Waking up to that view was unforgettable. The Spa was another highlight—not only were the treatments incredible, but the setting itself was serene, private, and deeply romantic. A must-do for any couple seeking relaxation and reconnection.Breakfast and tea time were our favorite meals of the day! We absolutely loved trying the Balinese treats, and every dish we had at the resort was fresh and delicious. The culinary team also went above and beyond in accommodating my husband's allergies—something we deeply appreciated. What truly made our stay extraordinary, though, was the staff. Everyone made us feel genuinely welcome, as if we were part of a family. The level of care, attention, and warmth we received was unlike anything we’ve experienced elsewhere. A special shout-out to Mei, the receptionist extraordinaire, who seemed to be everywhere all at once—always smiling, checking in on us, sharing her culture, and ensuring we had everything we needed. She made our stay feel even more personal and meaningful. On our last morning, I sat on our balcony listening to the gentle rain and reflecting on all the unforgettable memories we had made—not just in Ubud, but here at Komaneka at Bisma. It was more than a vacation; it was a heartfelt, peaceful celebration of love. We will never forget it.Highly, highly recommended."
"From the moment I stepped onto the serene grounds of Komaneka at Bisma, I felt like I had arrived somewhere sacred. Nestled in the lush jungle just a short stroll from the heart of Ubud, this resort is more than a hotel—it’s a sanctuary for the soul. The views from my suite were absolutely breathtaking. I woke up each morning to the gentle rustle of palm trees and the sight of the forest bathed in golden sunlight. The room itself was spacious and beautifully appointed, blending modern luxury with authentic Balinese design. Every detail—from the deep soaking tub to the handcrafted woodwork—was thoughtfully curated. What truly set this experience apart, though, was the staff. Warm, gracious, and genuinely attentive, they made me feel seen and cared for at every turn. Whether it was the personalized welcome, the turndown notes, or the kind conversations in passing, their hospitality was heartfelt and never forced. I especially loved the infinity pool overlooking the jungle, the peaceful breakfast terrace, and the indulgent spa treatments. There’s something magical about enjoying tea and fruit after a massage while listening to the river below. Komaneka at Bisma gave me the quiet luxury I didn’t even realize I needed. It was the perfect blend of calm, comfort, and connection to nature. I left feeling grounded, restored, and deeply grateful. Would I return? In a heartbeat. This place will forever hold a special place in my memory. Nothing that I didn’t like"
"There was so much to love about this place, the views were amazing and it was so clean. The staff were beautiful and especially Febi who tried so hard to make our stay pleasant, which it was. I wish we could have stayed longer. We loved the food and the staff even sent me the recipe for their sweet chilli dipping sauce that came with the prawn crackers so I can make it back home. I love that this is a Balinese owned resort as we have learned a lot about tourism in Bali and we wish to support the Balinese community instead. We truly felt at peace here and wish we had more time. My only criticism is the layout of the gym 🤷♀️ I’d swap the weights and the cardio over to the weights being infront of the mirrors and maybe a cable machine would be nice but I don’t imagine alof of people use the gym on holidays here. We used it every morning though. Also the river for us was quite loud not a soft flowing one that’s peaceful but really gushing so next time I’d try to stay a bit further from it"
"Despite being located in the heart of Ubud, the moment you step inside the resort, you feel transported to a completely different world. The views of the valley surrounded by forest are impressive, and the view from the infinity pool is particularly tranquil and peaceful. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, embodying the warm Balinese atmosphere. The staff's attentive and sincere service ensured a comfortable stay throughout. This is the perfect accommodation for travelers seeking both sightseeing and relaxation."
"Our family (including a senior) stayed in a 2-bedroom pool villa at Komaneka at Bisma, and it was an absolutely exceptional experience — truly one of Ubud’s hidden gems. With just 44 suites and villas, this boutique resort offers an atmosphere of exclusivity and tranquility. Having stayed at six different properties in Ubud, I can confidently say this has been the finest. The setting — with panoramic rice field and jungle views — perfectly captures the serene beauty of Ubud. From the seamless pre-arrival arrangements to the warm and attentive service throughout, every detail reflected genuine Balinese hospitality. ✨ A few refined touches worth noting: 1. The infinity pool and breakfast area offer breathtaking views of both jungle and rice terraces. 2. The villa pool begins at 1.3m depth — elegant for adults, though less suited for young children. 3. The villa ambiance is deeply romantic, enhanced by its warm and subtle lighting. 4. Room design is beautiful, though additional power outlets would be a welcome improvement. 5. Breakfast was delightful, with Indonesian specialties standing out as a highlight. 6. Floating breakfast is available as an indulgent add-on. This resort is a sanctuary of elegance and calm — a place I would gladly return to and highly recommend to those seeking an elevated Ubud experience"
"Fantastic service in a tranquil environment! On the surface, resorts like Komaneka Bisma is just one of the many available in Ubud. What differentiates this from the rest is the genuinely warm & sincere service that we received from all the staff in the resort. We were truly made to feel that we are special. The rooms & surroundings were also clean, comfortable & very peaceful. We would love to come back again some day!"
"The hotel is in a great location, close to the city center and surrounded by restaurants and various services. Its standout feature is its setting in the heart of nature, offering beautiful forest views and lush greenery all around. Naturally, this also means there are many insects and mosquitoes in the area. Overall, the staff were friendly, and the setting is beautiful While the surroundings are charming, the villa itself doesn’t quite meet 5-star standards. It felt somewhat old, with furniture that showed signs of heavy use and needed updating. The villas would benefit from renovation. During our stay, windy weather caused large branches to fall from the tall trees surrounding the villa. The noise was loud and frightening, especially as it happened late at night, disturbing our sleep and making us feel uncomfortable. Although this was due to natural conditions, hotel management responded with professionalism and care, making an effort to address our concerns but guests should be prepared for the realities of staying in a natural environment."
